Dr. Anita Shkedion - How Horses Help Heal Trauma

There is a kind of healing that doesn’t need words.

A remembering that happens in stillness, in breath, in presence.

And sometimes… it happens beside a horse.

As part of the Spiritual Horse Seekers Summit, this conversation with Dr. Anita Shkedi invites us deeper into the sacred work of connection, healing, and transformation that horses so naturally guide us into.

Dr. Anita Shkedi, founder of therapeutic riding in Israel and a pioneer in equine assisted learning, has devoted her life to understanding how horses help humans return to safety within themselves. From a very young age, she felt the quiet medicine of being with horses, and today, she supports individuals navigating trauma by reconnecting them to presence through the nonverbal wisdom of the horse.

Together, we explore how horses are not just companions, but conscious partners in healing. Through consent, co regulation, and deep attunement, they help us remember what it feels like to be grounded, safe, and truly seen. In a world that is becoming more disconnected, this work is a powerful return to what is real, relational, and alive.

This is the heart of the summit.

Horses as teachers. Horses as healers. Horses as guides back to ourselves.

Horses meet us exactly where we are, without judgment or words

Healing begins in presence, not in fixing

Trauma can be managed through connection, not erased

The body learns safety through co regulation with another being

Horses help us relearn nonverbal connection and emotional awareness

Both human and horse must feel safe for true transformation

Nature creates the space where healing and awakening unfold

Take a moment after listening and ask yourself:

Where in my life am I being invited to slow down, feel, and reconnect?
